Project Description
The Butoolo Project is one of RWICA’s flagship initiatives aimed at improving access to safe and clean water in underserved communities. The project was launched in response to the growing challenge of water scarcity, poor sanitation, and hygiene-related diseases affecting rural populations, particularly women and children.
Through this project, RWICA works hand in hand with local authorities, health facilities, and schools to construct and rehabilitate water systems, including boreholes and rainwater harvesting structures. Community members are trained in water management, maintenance, and hygiene promotion to ensure sustainability and ownership of the interventions.
In addition to providing clean water, the project integrates environmental conservation through tree planting and the protection of natural water sources. This ensures that water systems remain functional and the surrounding environment is protected against degradation.
Impact:
Improved access to safe drinking water for hundreds of households.
Strengthened community capacity in WASH management and sustainability.
Reduction in waterborne diseases and improved sanitation practices.
Increased awareness of environmental protection and resource conservation.
